ASTM E1105 — printable form

Spray Rack Calibration

A one-page calibration record for the shop's 4-zone spray rack. Print it, fill it out by hand while the rack is running, and keep the completed sheet on file — it isn't something this page can fill in for you. Re-run the full check and print a fresh copy every 6 months, and again before any E1105 water-penetration test; the form itself below carries the pass/fail thresholds and the formulas behind them.

Sizing a rack from scratch? Use the spray rack sizing calculator first to check flow, friction loss, and pump adequacy, then come back here to calibrate it. Running a full E1105 test? A real field test needs both sides holding at once — use the Windmaker calculator to size the blower(s) and set the Magnehelic gauge target for the air-pressure side, alongside this rack's calibrated flow rate.

Water-Spray Test Rack — Calibration Verification

Verifies this rack meets the ASTM E1105-15 spray-rack water-application rate of 5.0 gal/hr/ft² (E1105 / E331 / E547 spray-rack family; six-month recalibration required). This is a different apparatus and method from AAMA 501.2, which is a hand-held single-nozzle field hose test run at 30–35 psi — do not cite 501.2 as the basis for this rack's numbers. Rack: 4 zones, 1 ft² catch area each (4 ft² total) → minimum 20 gal/hr combined to pass. Recalibrate every 6 months and before any E1105 water-penetration test.

Pre-Test Checklist

All 4 nozzles inspected — no clogging, cracking, or mineral buildup
Water supply confirmed stable (no fluctuation expected during 15-min run)
All 4 catch buckets tared / weighed empty — recorded in table below
Pressure gauge zeroed and functioning; hose connections leak-free

Formula Reference — Follow in Order

1. Net water wt (lb) = Bucket + water wt − Empty bucket wt
2. Volume (gal) = Net water wt (lb) ÷ 8.34  [lb per U.S. gallon — standard water density]
3. Flow rate (gal/hr) = Volume (gal) × 4  [15-min run × 4 = 60 min/hr]
4. Combined total (gal/hr) = Zone 1 + Zone 2 + Zone 3 + Zone 4
5. PASS only if BOTH: (a) Combined total ≥ 20 gal/hr, and (b) EACH zone individually falls between 4–10 gal/hr.
If either fails → clean / inspect / replace nozzles and retest before use on any E1105 test.
